Restoration of NYC Landmark Hotel Requires Diplomacy and Close Cooperation

Brick masonry repair work and replacement. Decorative stone repair. Stucco repair and replacement. Lintel replacement. Spandrel beam cleaning and rustproof coating. Masonry cleaning and rustproof coating. Mechanical room louver repair.
Challenge:
To do extensive restoration while access to this historical landmark building was limited due to the proximity of surrounding structures and business needs. Also, the hotel management did not want their guest’s overnight stay experience, or any hotel functions to be negatively affected by any restoration work. In addition, the adjacent Fifth Avenue luxury retail shops did not want their customers to be inconvenienced.
Solution:
To accomodate the tight rigging space, a creative rigging plan was implemented incorporating installation of beams inside the building, and extending through the windows. We worked closely with the landmarks commission as they approved all materials and processes in this project. We worked around the hotel’s schedule, so as to not impair the experience of the guests or hotel functions. The shopkeepers on Fifth Avenue were not affected due to effective and diplomatic project management - meeting with store managers daily.
