Renovation Presents Unique Challenges

Parapet wall replacement, cornice repair, brick pointing, coating of masonry and window frames.

Challenge:
Original construction created many unforeseen problems that were not identified in the original engineering report. For example when the parapet wall was taken down it exposed the interior CMU was not grouted.

Solution:
Removed exterior wythe of brick from the top floor window headers to the coping / cap. Reinforcement of the structural steel to accommodate the installation of new GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) cornice in this area. Powerwashing, brick pointing, water repellent coating of the balance of the brick masonry. Coating of the window frames with Tnemec paint.
